Sponge filters offer reliability and hassle-free operation. With no moving parts, all you need is an air supply and you've got a filter that is fully contained within your aquarium. Sponge filters are completely reusable, don't need any replacement cartridges and last for several years. Trusted by fish farms and wholesalers, sponge filters are a great choice for reliability and to set and forget.
The Aquarium Co-Op sponge filter is designed using coarse foam so that it can go many weeks between cleanings. The coarse foam with the weighted base means it'll stack on the bottom of your aquarium. No more floating up after a water change or initial installation. Green Plastic helps hide algae and blend in with your live aquarium plants.
- Coarse Foam
- Weighted Base
- Can Install Air Stone
Pore Size: 25ppi (different manufacturers rate porosity slightly different as it's an approximation)
A sponge filter requires air to run, so you will also need to get a small air pump and airline tubing for proper installation. If you want coarse bubbles, use the sponge filter without an air stone. If you want smaller bubbles, less noise, and better flow, add a never clog air stone inside the sponge filter.
Cleaning Instructions: Use a fish bag, Ziplock bag or pitcher to put around the sponge while inside of the aquarium. Lift the water and sponge out to catch the majority of debris that will come off while removing. Next, use the aquarium water and squeeze out the debris from the sponge. Discard the water and get more water from the aquarium and repeat until sponge filter is mostly free of debris.
